Following is a description of each sub-topic on the test:

Storage Devices and Media assesses knowledge of storage devices and removable media on which computer systems record information for later retrieval.

Network Cabling and Network Types tests understanding of the cabling and connectivity of various network types. Also analyzes familiarity with network types in the local and wide areas.

Network Protocols and Devices determines knowledge of basic network infrastructure, including devices such as routers and switches. Also covers protocols such as HTTP, DNS, and DHCP.

Mobile Devices measures knowledge of smaller computing platforms, such as laptops and smartphones, as well as awareness of mobile operating systems and the synchronization of their contents with external systems.

Computer Peripherals, Interfaces, Cables, and Connectors evaluates knowledge of external input and output devices such as keyboards, KVMs, and speakers; as well as how each interact with a computer.

Monitors and Printers measures proficiency in identifying and troubleshooting the prominent output devices of common computer systems.

Hardware and Network Troubleshooting evaluates the ability to analyze and correct problems with computing and networking hardware and configurations.

Windows Operating System, Commands, and Security tests understanding of the key features of the Windows operating systems, knowledge of Windows commands and security settings that are used to administer a computer system.

Windows Control Panel Utilities evaluates understanding of applets found in the Windows Control Panel and tests capacity to navigate the attendant tabs found within the applets.

Security Threats and Prevention Methods assesses understanding various security tools and methods; such as anti-malware, firewalls, and strong passwords; to prevent security breaches.

Mac OS X and Linux Features and Commands measures understanding of features and commands in Linux-based operating systems, including version 10 of the Macintosh operating system.
